Understanding Path of Exile 2 leveling strategies: Learning Resources

Few players learn to level in Path of Exile 2 by trial and error alone; most learn from guides, videos, patch notes and each other. This overview looks at those learning resources, what each is good for and where each falls short.

Why leveling is worth studying

Path of Exile 2 is an action RPG from Grinding Gear Games that has been in early access since December 2024. At Gamescom 2026 the studio announced the 1.0 full release for 11 December 2026, the same day the game goes free-to-play, and 1.0 also brings a new class, the Duelist, who fights with sword and shield. A free entry point means many newcomers will arrive at once, and most of them will be looking for a way to learn the campaign efficiently.

Leagues reset economies periodically, so leveling is not something you do once. Each fresh start rewards players who understand the underlying principles over those who memorized a single route.

The principles good resources share

Well-made learning resources tend to agree on a handful of ideas, even when they disagree on details:

  • A coherent pairing of skill gems and the support gems socketed with them carries a character further early on than hunting for rare gear.
  • Steady forward progress through the campaign usually beats clearing every corner of every area.
  • Each upgrade should answer a problem you actually noticed, such as slow boss fights or getting overwhelmed by packs.
  • Knowing how enemies in an area behave is worth as much as extra damage.

None of these require exact figures. When a resource promises a precise moment to do something, it is usually describing one build in one patch, which is useful only if you play that build in that patch.

Comparing the main learning resources

Each type of resource teaches in a different way, and most players end up combining several:

  1. Official patch notes: the only reliable record of what changed. Dry, but essential before each league and especially around 1.0.
  2. Community wikis: good for looking up how a mechanic works; check the edit date, since early access content changes.
  3. Video guides and streams: best for watching routes and decisions in motion, although the player on screen often has knowledge and resources a beginner lacks.
  4. Written leveling guides: easy to keep open on a second screen and to revisit; quality varies widely.
  5. Playing with friends: the slowest to scale, but the best way to learn why something works, not just what to click.

Service sites publish descriptive pages as well. The power-leveling page at https://bestgameboost.com/poe-2/power-leveling/ outlines what one third party offers, which gives context about the market, but it is not a learning resource in the sense of the list above.

Three learning scenarios

The best mix depends on who you are when you start. The free-to-play newcomer arriving at 1.0 does well with one clearly explained written guide for a class they like, a wiki for anything confusing, and no speed-run routes until the campaign feels familiar.

The early access veteran trying the Duelist already knows the campaign, but a new class means new habits. Watching a few runs of the class shows how others handle it, and the 1.0 patch notes confirm what has changed since the last update they played.

The explorer prefers to discover things alone and opens a guide only when stuck. Leveling more slowly is a fair price for that, and many players remember those runs best. Even explorers benefit from skimming patch notes, though, because a surprise change can look like a personal mistake when it is really a rebalance.

Boosting, carries and other shortcuts

Some players consider paid help instead of, or alongside, learning. Aggregator pages listing Path of Exile 2 boosting services and progression options show what is available, from carries to having someone else level a character. It is worth understanding these options before judging them, and worth being clear about the rules.

Real-money trading of items or currency breaches Grinding Gear Games' terms, and boosting or account sharing can also violate the terms of service and lead to penalties on the account. Arrangements differ, so the risk depends on the details. Before using any service, check:

  • Whether another person would log in to your account.
  • Whether items or currency would change hands for real money.
  • What GGG's current terms say about that specific arrangement.
  • What you give up in learning: a boosted character arrives without the knowledge the campaign normally teaches.

Keeping study sessions sustainable

Learning a campaign often means long evenings with a guide open beside the game. Breaking for a proper meal and a drink of water every so often keeps attention on the screen rather than on hunger, and a rested head follows a guide better.

Whatever mix you choose, treat each resource as one voice among several, and let your own runs show which advice actually fits the way you play.
